Telescopes/Team leader
In the telescopes project we learned about optics and astronomy, while building refracting and reflecting telescopes. As a team leader my job was to be in charge of three groups who built the three different types of telescopes; Galilean, Keplerian, and Newtonian. As I previously stated, there are two categories these telescopes fall into; refracting and reflecting. The Galilean and Keplerian are refracting, and the Newtonian is a reflecting telescope. A refracting telescope is a type of telescope that uses lenses to capture light and focus it. Wheres the Newtonian uses mirrors instead of lenses. It uses a primary and secondary mirror, the primary mirror is curved and focuses all the light to the secondary mirror, which is the one you look at through an eyepiece which then makes the image view-able. I learned that as a team leader I needed to leave my groups to themselves more and let them be more independent, and only help when they required it. If there is ever another project like this again, I know now what to do and what not to do.
One of the team leader responsibilities was to make a professional telescope by attending weekly telescope making workshops over the weekend. Since there are four team leaders per class we rotated between who would go each week. This telescope workshop was hosted by Peter De Baan. Peter is a longtime member of the astronomy club of San Diego. Peter guided us through the telescope making process, whereas a good portion was grinding a lense on iron shavings picured below.

During exhibition, my job was to be a usher for the happiness project. We exhibited the happiness project by clearing out the main commons and placing all of our final products and research binders on tales. My job as an usher was to answer any questions the guests had.
